Tyler Rake, played by Chris Hemsworth, stars in a new franchise with the confirmed release of Extraction 3. There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the cast, story, and release date of the sequels to Extraction and Extraction 2.

Based on the graphic novel “City” by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, the Extraction franchise centers on black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth). In the first Extraction film, released on Netflix in 2020, Rake is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian mob boss. Extraction 2, in 2023, in which Rake is hired to free a Georgian gangster’s family from prison, turned Extraction into a franchise.

Given its success on Netflix, the news of Extraction 3’s release came as no surprise, despite its excellent reception. Extraction 3 was also a ratings hit and Chris Hemsworth’s biggest role since Thor. When Extraction became Netflix’s most-watched original film, they quickly greenlit a sequel, and Extraction 3 continued that trend (along with news of potential spinoffs). The Extraction 3 cast will likely contain plenty of surprises, just like its predecessor, with some returning faces as Netflix continues to develop the franchise. However, for many viewers, the key piece of information is what Extraction 3’s story might have in store for Tyler Rake closer to its release date.
